National Sports

Soccer is the most popular sport in Mexico. The World Cup finales, in 1970 and 1986, were organized in the Estadio Azteca de Mexico that seats 110 000 people. For information about these games and the results, log on to .

The cockfights, the pelota (jai alai) and the wrestling (lucha libre), are also very valued sports or shows in Mexico.

The Bullfight is also very popular. It is considered as a ritual dance and a fight more than a sport. The fights occur on Sunday afternoon at a very specific time. Some bullrings are more authentic like the ones in Mexico, Querétaro, Texcoco, Tlaxcala, Aguascalientes. The bullrings of Cancun and Acapulco are staged for tourists. You can consult the website for the schedules of the next fights, the results and the biography of the matadors.

The Mexican rodeo or charreada is the occasion of colorful shows through the whole country, except Yucatán and the South. They take place two or three times a year, especially in Mexico City at Easter.

The"festival del Mariachi y la Charrería" of Guadalajara (end of August-every year) is the window of this sport, even if less mediatized than the soccer.
