Los
Mochis
Let’s go on this adventure of Los Mochis,
located 20 km (15 miles) from Topolambo Harbor. In Maya dialect,
Los Mochis means "place of the turtle". It could look
romantic but this 250,000 inhabitant city is the opposite picture
that the tourists have about Mexico. There is neither
baroque colonial façade nor mariachi musician. The big number
of zapaterias, shoe stores displaying cowboy boots, reminds you
that the huge cattle ranches are not far away. No matter what, Los
Mochis crawls (in high season) with tourists rushing to hotels,
the day before the departure for their dream train ride. We will
say it again : Don’t stay in Los Mochis....
Means of transportation
By air
Los Mochis airport is located 15 min from downtown
between the Pacific and the city. The flight from Mexico
City lasts 2 hours. It is at sea level. The city has 250 000
habitants. It is very hot in summer.
Hertz and Budget are at the airport. The air companies are Aeromexico, VivaAerobus, Interjet and Aeropacifico (www.aeropacifico.com).
Aeropacifico services Los Cabos from the northern towns as well
as Chihuahua -

If you fly from Mexico City, you can
take a low cost company (not every day) or Aeromexico
on the morning. Then, you can ride a bus to El Fuerte (2hour trip
and $70) with the company Azules.
To go downtown Los Mochis, take a taxi ($175) or a colectivo
($100) if you are lucky enough to see one at the airport.
As advised in every tourist guide, it is not necessary to stop
in Los Mochis.

are many buses from different companies leaving from several bus
stations: the main bus station is located on Castro Boulevard by
the Constitucíon Avenue. The "Transportes Norte

have their own terminal, respectively on Degollado avenue, between
Juárez and Morelos, and on Zaragoza between Juárez
and Morelos.
By
train
The train station, outside the city, can be reached
by taxi ($120) because the departures are often early from this
platform. You can make reservations and buy tickets at the train
station or in travel agencies including Viajes Flamingo. We advise
you to plan ahead in high season. Reservations by phone,
