By plane : Airport Federal of Xoxocotlán is located 8,5 km (5.3 miles) south of Oaxaca City on the road to Puerto Angel, (951) 511 50 40. Taxis or colectivos allow you to go downtown in 20 minutes for respectively $140 and $50. From your hotel, use the services of "Transportación Terrestre Aeropuerto", (951) 514 43 50 or via tours@go-oaxaca.com (airport-hotel by car, one or two persons, US$ 50 or by mini-bus, 3 to 7 persons, US$50 and hotel-airport, by car, one or two persons, US$ 25 or by mini-bus, 3 to 7 persons, US$35). They pick you up at your hotel at fixed times. Make the reservation the day before (except on Sundays).

Oaxaca has two bus stations

1st class Bus Station : it is 1.5 km (1 mile) north-east of the main plaza (Calzada Niños Héroes de Chapultepec #1036), (951) 515 12 14.
Departures every hour to Mexico City, Terminal TAPO (6h05 ride), day and night and for every budget (10 De luxe buses). Fees from $498 to $596 (in 2012) with the Companies ADO-GL and UNO. The offices are:

Oaxaca : Calzada Niños Héroes de Chapultepec # 1036, Col Jalatlaco, (951) 515 12 48 Ext 2801 and 2801
Huatulco : Tickets sale and departures on Calle Gardenias, esq. Ocotillo s/n, Col. Centro, (958) 587 02 61.
A few departures to San Cristóbal (11h ride by night), Veracruz (7h), Puebla (4h15), Tuxtla (same bus than San Cristóbal).
With the company OCC, departures to Puerto Escondido (10h or 11h ride, 2012 fees: $352) and to Huatulco (7h or 8h ride, fees $348).

2nd class Bus Station, by the Mercado de Abastos, 1 km (0.6 mile) from the main plaza (Zócalo) and on the other side of the beltway. Same destinations than from 1st class bus station but the fees and comfort are lower.

You can have information at the Ticket Bus offices.
There are many TICKET BUS stalls in Oaxaca and the surroundings.

oaxaca market How to get around ?

By bus : to travel to the surroundings, take a bus from the 2nd class Bus Station.

By taxi or colectivos : $160 per hour in taxi. To visit the villages and different markets of the region, the colectivo is an excellent choice. Departures from Mercado de Abastos (small fees and good atmosphere guaranteed).

 

 

 


There are many guided tours (tours visitas guiadas) from Oaxaca to the archaeological sites and the villages mentioned in the chapter "Oaxaca valleys". A bus leaves Oaxaca at 10 AM to the market of Tlacolula on Sundays, to Villa de Etla on Wednesdays, to Zaachila on Thursdays and to Ocotlán on Fridays.
